Voice of the Villiages


Local residents, Vic & Carol Benson, broadcast a weekly radio programme called 'Voice of the Villages' on Swindon 105.5 your local community radio station.   Their programme focuses on the villages and small towns that surround Swindon.     The programme contains a weekly quiz; a mix of music and interviews with local organisations or individuals and a monthly Grow Your Own feature.      Carol & Vic are regular contributors to the BBC Community Radio programme on a Sunday at 5pm – in 2016 the BBC used 59 interviews, 60 if you count a seasonal repeat about Lydiard Turkeys on Christmas day.    


Thursday 16 November (repeated Saturday 18 November)
·         Simon Brooks, National Trust Head Gardener at Avebury Manor, provides advice on what to do to put the garden to bed for the winter. Everything from looking after your tools, protecting your more tender plants, caring for ponds, winter digging and spreading of manure/compost etc.
·         Curator, Sophie Cummings, from Swindon Museum & Art Gallery talks about some more of her favourite objects in the collection.
 Thursday 23 November (repeated Saturday 25 November)
·         In the last of the occasional series which looks at the 13 sites of the Wiltshire Landscape managed by the National Trust, Carol talks to Ranger, Keith Stegall.   Keith looks after Calstone & Cherhill Downs and the Stonehenge landscape.    He explains what is special about these sites and what is involved in looking after them.
