Voice of the Villiages


Local residents, Vic & Carol Benson, broadcast a weekly radio programme called 'Voice of the Villages' on Swindon 105.5 your local community radio station.   Their programme focuses on the villages and small towns that surround Swindon.     The programme contains a weekly quiz; a mix of music and interviews with local organisations or individuals and a monthly Grow Your Own feature.      Carol & Vic are regular contributors to the BBC Community Radio programme on a Sunday at 5pm – in 2016 the BBC used 59 interviews, 60 if you count a seasonal repeat about Lydiard Turkeys on Christmas day.    
Thursday 25 May (repeated Saturday 27 May)
·         A special programme recorded whilst Vic & Carol were on holiday in Derbyshire. We hear about the Tramway Museum at Crich; a guided walk around the village of Eyam where villagers quarantined themselves from 1665-1666 to prevent the spread of bubonic plague; walks in the Peak District and a visit to The Workhouse at Southwell, which has been saved from destruction by the National Trust.
·         Carol talks to the Visitor Experience Manager at Hardwick Hall and finds out all about Bess of Hardwick, a formidable lady from the Tudor period.   Did you know, with hubby no.2, she built the original Chatsworth House?
Thursday 1 June (repeated Saturday 3 June)
·         Carol talks to Hilary Makins, National Trust Countryside Manager for Wiltshire.   In a 2-part interview Hilary provides an Overview of the Wiltshire Landscape and the 13 different sites involved. Throughout the Summer period there will be further interviews with the 4 Wiltshire Landscape Rangers, who will describe the sites they are responsible for and what makes each of them so special.
