Cricket returns to Lydiard Millicent

Written 11/02/14

Purton Cricket Club and Lydiard Millicent Parish Council are extremely pleased to announce a partnership that will bring cricket back into Lydiard Millicent Village from 2014.

As Purton Cricket Club look to expand it’s number of competitive teams especially after a successful 2013 season where they were promoted to the West of England Premier League, from 2014 it will run a 3rd team from the Lydiard Millicent facilities at Chestnut Springs. Their team has been accepted into the Wiltshire League 7th Division and will field a number of youth and senior players and will be captained by former Purton youth player, Fraser Conway.
Tom Pepperall from Lydiard Millicent Parish Council said “We are pleased to see cricket coming back to the village on a Saturday afternoon and hope the whole village embrace this and come out and support the team. We also hope to see some Lydiard Millicent residents sign up to play in their home village.”
Matthew Bull, Chairman of Purton Cricket Club stated, “This is something we have been looking to put together for a while. We are dedicated to providing cricket at all levels and by implementing a 3rd team, it also allows our junior players somewhere to go as an introduction into senior cricket. We are really excited to be working with Lydiard Millicent on this program and if successful, we will look into implementing another team in the next couple of years. The facilities at Chestnut Springs are fantastic and this whole program compliments the direction we are looking to take the club towards”
