Footpaths, Cyclepaths and Bridleways
1.0 Objectives
- Plan for short and long term foot/cycle/horse routes
- Provide access to, from and within the village
- To meet all needs - leisure, work, shopping, medical, exercise etc
- Available to all, the disabled, babies in prams, children and the aged
The overall objective being SAFE access for all.
2.0 Methodology
- Create working group - additional volunteers always Welcome.Complete
- Generate draft plan.Complete
- Publicise proposals.Completed at initial public meeting
- Collect Feedback from public meeting, village magazine, interested groups, business, hall, school etc.
- Redraft plan and present for further comment on 28th May.
- Revised plans displayed at the LMParish Hall on 30th June and 14th July.
- Prepare submission for LMPPSteering Group approval 3rd September 2004

- request for footpath at Holborn will be assessed. - Petition (167 signatures) re path from Buryfields to Woolfords and then from Perrins/Toomers to provide safer movement along Stone Lane and a footpath around Holborn corner and through the village.

- John Blakeston - request for better bridleway network. Convert footpath from Lydiard Green to Greatfields to a Bridleway. Make footpath from The Beeches to school along the edge of Lordswood
- School governors - would like to see a 'safer' non-motorised access to the school.
- Various (at public meetings) - improved access through Holborn.
- Various (Spencer Close West Swindon) 8 families - Children's access to LM school.
- Arthur Beltrami & Peter Minett - realign footpath from Meadow Springs to Washpool corner to meet existing footpath
- John Halstead - improved access through Common Platt.
- Resident of Common Platt - need for access through Common Platt to nursery along Washpool lane.
- Mollie Groom (Chestnut Springs) - reservations about merging with Swindon.
- John Blakeston commented that the Holborn corner is very dangerous indeed for horse riders. Other corners (Jobbers Lane at Manor Hill, Greatfield cross roads) can be negotiated with care. The corner at the chapel in Lydiard Green was also highlighted as dangerous.
- Paul Perks (Cycling) - at Washpool and Moody's. Water drainage is poor and when it freezes it becomes very dangerous. Bollards are requested at the traffic calming at the paddocks.
- Peta Guest suggested that there may be objections from landowners to new footpaths passing through their land. She also requested that consideration be given to other path users - other than school children. A path to Purton is also required.
- Mrs Wicks (Hook Farm) - reported problems with school children walking home from WB school leaving farm gates open.

5.0 General Conclusions and Priorities
- The HIGHEST PRIORITY path is the route through Holborn through to West Swindon.
- The next HIGHEST PRIORITY is a route through the Street and Stone Lane.
- Alleviating traffic congestion caused by LM School is a high priority.
- Access through Common Platt.
- Improved access for Horses.
- Access to industrial area and Lydiard Green.
- A route from Meadow Springs to Washpool Turn.
- A route to Purton.
6.0 Future Actions
- Submit plan for for discussion and approval to the LMPPSteering Group.
- Submission of approved proposals to the appropriate authorities and representatives.
- Monitor all comment to published proposals.
- Consider and incorporate changes for final approval by the LMPPSteering Group (Sept 2004).
- Contact Nationwide for funding.
