3.1 Written Material

  1. Letter from Tom Pepperall - concern over Holborn corner and access to school and shop(s)
  2. Email/meeting with Kevin Twigg (Forge Fields) - some reservations on off road paved cycle/footpath from
    Park View to School
  3. Email/meeting with Rob Taylor (Forge Fields) - similar to the above plus litter/lighting/security.
  4. Letter from Professor and Mrs John Lawton (West Swindon)- strong request for footpath around Holborn corner.
  5. Email Clive Heard (Common Platt) - strong request for footpath to Peatmoor School and Stone Lane.
  6. Kate Morrison (Meadow Springs) - concern over parking requirements, improved foot/cyclepaths to school.
  7. Letter from Peta Guest/Arthur Beltrami/Phil Head (on behalf of school/parish hall) - safe foot/cycle path access to school.
  8. Letter D L Ovens (Park View Drive) - to Wilts Highways Partnership (WHP) requesting path at Holborn.
  9. Letter from Rod Gibbs WHP - in answer to the above that funding is "unlikely for Holborn foot and cycle path."
  10. Letter from A F Feist Assistant Director Planning and Development (WCC) - to Chairman of LMPC
    - request for footpath at Holborn will be assessed.
  11. Petition (167 signatures) re path from Buryfields to Woolfords and then from Perrins/Toomers to provide safer movement along Stone Lane and a footpath around Holborn corner and through the village.
  12. LM School traffic working party survey - the need for improved foot and cycle access to school (Holborn Corner, Stone Lane, The Sun to school).
  13. Nationwide Building Society - possible funding for "self help" path construction.
  14. Anonymous input via Peta Guest - detailed critique of footpath map drafts.

3.2 Verbal Material

  1. John Blakeston - request for better bridleway network. Convert footpath from Lydiard Green to Greatfields to a Bridleway. Make footpath from The Beeches to school along the edge of Lordswood
  2. School governors - would like to see a 'safer' non-motorised access to the school.
  3. Various (at public meetings) - improved access through Holborn.
  4. Various (Spencer Close West Swindon) 8 families - Children's access to LM school.
  5. Arthur Beltrami & Peter Minett - realign footpath from Meadow Springs to Washpool corner to meet existing footpath
  6. John Halstead - improved access through Common Platt.
  7. Resident of Common Platt - need for access through Common Platt to nursery along Washpool lane.
  8. Mollie Groom (Chestnut Springs) - reservations about merging with Swindon.
  9. John Blakeston commented that the Holborn corner is very dangerous indeed for horse riders. Other corners (Jobbers Lane at Manor Hill, Greatfield cross roads) can be negotiated with care. The corner at the chapel in Lydiard Green was also highlighted as dangerous.
  10. Paul Perks (Cycling) - at Washpool and Moody's. Water drainage is poor and when it freezes it becomes very dangerous. Bollards are requested at the traffic calming at the paddocks.
  11. Peta Guest suggested that there may be objections from landowners to new footpaths passing through their land. She also requested that consideration be given to other path users - other than school children. A path to Purton is also required.
  12. Mrs Wicks (Hook Farm) - reported problems with school children walking home from WB school leaving farm gates open.

5.0 General Conclusions and Priorities

  1. The HIGHEST PRIORITY path is the route through Holborn through to West Swindon.
  2. The next HIGHEST PRIORITY is a route through the Street and Stone Lane.
  3. Alleviating traffic congestion caused by LM School is a high priority.
  4. Access through Common Platt.
  5. Improved access for Horses.
  6. Access to industrial area and Lydiard Green.
  7. A route from Meadow Springs to Washpool Turn.
  8. A route to Purton.

6.0 Future Actions

  1. Submit plan for for discussion and approval to the LMPPSteering Group.
  2. Submission of approved proposals to the appropriate authorities and representatives.
  3. Monitor all comment to published proposals.
  4. Consider and incorporate changes for final approval by the LMPPSteering Group (Sept 2004).
  5. Contact Nationwide for funding.
